I'm in a commercial!

Ok, technically this is true (you can see the back of my head at the very end in the lower left corner), but the more exciting and relevant part is:

My friend made this commercial, and it's up to you to make it win the big prize! My buddy Sam Frank (of Will Rice fame) is in film school, and he and a classmate were selected as top 10 finalists in the Coca Cola Refreshing Filmmakers Award contest, and their commercial "Reception" is now posted on the website - http://www.ccrfa.com. This year's theme was "Diet Coke can really make your day," and at what time is that more applicable than at a boring, meticulously planned, overpriced wedding reception?

What YOU (yes, you) need to do is, go to the site, open up 2007 Finalists, watch "Reception" and be awed and amazed by it, then (and this is the extra critical piece) Vote! Go to Submit Vote and rate it the highest marks you can find - If (when!) Sam and Sean-Michael win, they'll get a much-needed scholarship and nationwide exposure at theaters, which means you'll also get to watch the commercial during movie previews and have the personal satisfaction of knowing you contributed to something famous!

http://www.ccrfa.com. "Reception". Just for the taste of it.

A brief return.

So my LJ peeps have let me down a bit. I'm trusting you dear Xangsters to pick up the slack here. Your thoughts and musings are hereby solicited.

In the course of a very cognitively oriented conversation on dating and other things last weekend, a friend revealed to me that he has a sort of vision or fantasy about how he will meet a/the person he is meant to be with. To him, there needs to be some element of fate or unlikely circumstance surrounding the meeting - coming across someone in a distant part of his network at a conference in another city, or happening to be at the same infrequent event would count, whereas moving to the same city to attend the same program and be around each other all the time would not. He later admitted that he actually has a specific ideal (or representation of that ideal) of how it will happen: he sees himself wandering through a forest and then comes upon a stream and sits down next to it. Moments later, a woman walks into this same isolated area and sits next to him and they start talking, and he knows this is who he's supposed to be with.

I understand the figurativeness of this scenario, but it also struck me as interesting that the fantasy was so specific. I don't know that I've ever presumed to conjure a specific image of how things like that in my life will happen. I suppose that I have some kind of vision about the kind of man I will marry and how our interactions will be, but even that is relatively vague, focused on some difficult-to-define combination of broader elements. Still, I do think there is some facet or facsimile of fate that is present in my thoughts on the idea, or at least that I recall the more coincidental/fate-like aspects of previous relationships and view them as somewhat unique.

So my questions are: 1) Do any of you have these types of visions/ideals about how you will meet a significant person/people in your life or what these people will be like (or have you in the past)? What are the fantasies or situations like? 2) To what extent do you believe that some element of fate or uncontrollable/greater powers have been or will be involved in your meeting of this person/people?

I have some hypotheses I'm playing around with, but I want to hear your responses. So do it.

It is done. New postings can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/users/junior37 . For better or worse. Why can't someone just create my perfect logging site at no charge? This will have to do for the moment...
